In this week’s episode, we chatted with Lyal from Black Sheep bottle shop in Kingscliff. We spoke about the beginnings of Black SHeep liquor store, where Lyal recounts the need to change the way liquor was sold in contrast to the majors at the time. Black Sheep has maintained this ethos throughout the years and now has seven stores across Australia, “we don’t compete with the chains on price, but we will beat them on our curation of stock”.
We touched on why Lyal moved to Kingscliff and his connection to the area, which he describes as somewhere he has always seen himself moving to “the beaches along Kingscliff, the Tweed Coast and Byron just have a particular charm”.
Black Sheep focuses on three big things: artisan wine from ranging price points and knowledgable staff to always assist you in choosing the right wine. Second, an extensive range of craft beer from local and regional breweries, and thirdly, spirits including speciality gin and whisky. Black Sheep has weekly tastings for locals to come and discover the products for themselves.
